Science outreach is very important to me. It is something I enjoy doing but also something that I think is important for a scientists to do. I often visit schools and local communities to talk about science. I am also involved with several organizations such as Pint of Science Canada and Skype a Scientist. Below are some of the talks, interviews, or news articles that are available online.

Industry in walrus territory WWF - The Circle "Pacific walruses are segregated by gender for much of the year. Adult females and young follow the ice edge as it recedes through the Chukchi Sea in summer and they return to the Bering Sea in winter, while most males stay in the Bering Sea year-round. Xavier Mouy says studies are underway to assess the effects of industrial activities on walruses." |
Quiet Please, the Fish Are Flirting Hakai Magazine "The fact that some fish make noise has been known for a while, says Xavier Mouy, a biologist at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia. But few people have been interested in studying the phenomenon. So this summer, Mouy and his colleagues will gather underwater recordings to determine which fish are making sounds, and why." |
